Shooters, Now Listen Up!
This hear is your safety briefing and you better pay attention cause you will be
tested on it every time you show up at the range. While the following safety
rules may or may not be inclusive of all necessary safety rules on a given day,
the intent is clearly there to prevent any unsafe firearms handling or unsafe
discharge of a firearm. Cowboy Shooters just want to have fun! But Firearms
Safety is always First ! If you have any questions regarding the safety rules
listed below, contact a WD Club Officer, Match Director or Range Safety
Officer for further explanation.
We Will NOT
tolerate unsafe handling or unsafe discharging of a firearm.
Anyone can call a cease fire if they observe an unsafe act.
Observe the surrounding roads and paths above the range for individuals.
Eye Protection is mandatory
Hearing protection is recommended
Muzzles up, actions open when transporting firearms to and from the loading or unloading tables
Firearms will only be loaded at the loading tables
One shooter loading at the loading table at a time
Ensure you have the correct ammo for the weapon you are trying to load
Pistols will only be loaded with 5 rds maximum, 1 chamber must be empty
Only LEAD bullets, NO jacketed bullets, and NO gas checked bullets
Cap & Ball pistols, cylinders may be loaded at the unloading tables
Cap & Ball pistols will only be capped at the loading tables
Pistols will have the hammer down on an empty chamber or uncapped chamber
All weapons fired and/or carried during a stage will be cleared at the unloading table
Dropped ammo or a dropped weapon is DEAD, a Range Officer or Posse Marshall will retrieve whatever is dropped and take it to the unloading table
The 170-degree rule will be enforced, if you do not know what this is, then first consult the SASS shooters handbook, then ask a Range Safety Officer for clairification
Cross Draw Dance must be observed on drawing and re-holstering of pistols, if you do not know what this is, then first consult the SASS shooters handbook, then ask a Range Safety Officer for clairification
The job of Timer is to assist the shooter and observe for safety problems
There will be a minimum of 2 shot counters at all times (not to include the Timer)
The Range Officer (RO) will be identified at the beginning of each stage
